The Shadows of the Past Trilogy
Episode 9: Nemesis of the Force Part 20
The scene cuts away to a massive celebration in the streets of Manaan. A huge party is being thrown, like a mix of the Ewok celebration at the end of Episode 6 and the celebration at the end of Episode 1. In the party, the heroes can be found scattered amongst the crowd. We first find Finn and Rose with Chewie and Kuranraha. They are laughing and having a good time together. Then we see Poe and BB8 with Hera, Chegon and Ki-isha. Maz Kanata also hovers around them, laughing and causing mischief.
The Felderra Dragons are then shown; Bannick with Zelia together, smiling at one another and hinting that they are a couple. Kika, Shadow and IG-14 hang close by as Kika steals a morsel of food and tosses it to a very happy Shadow. Then Golrit is seen with them, as if he is a new member of their mercenary unit. He is showing off his new serpentine staff to IG-14 - Sala-tzar's staff that had impaled Saydra.
Then we find Oniho, Temiri and Arashell who seem to be enjoying some of the food from the food table. Oniho darts away from the other two, rushing up to Kika to discuss something with her. It seems that Oniho has now grown quite fond of Kika, but it is not clear if the feeling is mutual. Temiri is then seen getting closer to Arashell. The girl seems a bit flushed.
After this, we see that they are amidst many individuals dressed in Republic uniforms. Following this, the clone troopers of the Zyn Empire are seen, mingling with them as well as many non-clone Zyn personnel. There are also those of the Hapes Consortium, a few Hutts, some CSA, and at least one Black Sun member. All of them intermingled amongst the population. Even the First Order is represented at the party, showing that peace has been brought to the galaxy as all of the factions have united.
Finally we come to the end of the main street where the capital building of Manaan is. There, Leia stands along with R2 and 3P0 and a host of other government leaders from all of the factions. Admiral Zelthen of the First Order is there too, as is Amelia Zyn and her entourage. Amelia is modestly dressed, looking more like a normal business woman and not an Empress to show that she has reorganized her government into something else.
Two individuals are missing from the party: Saydra and Jacen. What their fates are, that is not provided in this scene. Were they arrested and thrown in prison? Did they escape and disappear? Will they be a threat again in the future? All that is clear is that they did not receive pardons, for they are not present at the party.
Rey is then seen walking up to Leia. She is dressed as if she is a knight, wearing sleek, ceremonial armor with her lightsaber at her hip. Rey smiles at Leia and the government leaders and bows to each with respect.
And then, we follow her gaze and we see her father, Merik, who stands with Aritra, her mother. Aritra has obviously returned, for her gate was never destroyed. Merik puts his arm around his wife. He looks healthy and strong now, and he smiles at Rey. At that moment, a little boy pushes his way between them. He is only about two, indicating that at least three years have passed. He looks up at them with a pouty face and crosses his arms as if he disapproves of their affections. Merik and Aritra laugh, and Merik ruffles his hair. Rey laughs as well, displaying just how happy she is to finally have a family.
Banners unfurl behind the leaders displaying a new government symbol. Words read “Galactic Alliance” on many of the banners. Fireworks burst in the sky.
The crowd cheers all the more. Then we see Finn and Rose, and they are intertwining their fingers, holding hands, embracing and kissing. Leia approaches Rey, and she puts her arm around her, showing that she is also like a mother to her, even as the music reaches its climax. More fireworks burst in the skies as the celebration becomes even more exuberant…
…and the final credits begin.
At the end of the credits, there is an unexpected, final scene. A hand flips the pages of a book back to the beginning. The first page reads: “A long time ago…in a galaxy far, far away…” The hand then closes the book completely to show the cover. It reads: “Star Wars”. And beneath this it reads: “Vol. 421 of the Journal of the Whills.” (TK-421 being one of the stormtrooper’s numbers on the Death Star in Episode 4.)
An old, sage-like human male is then seen, sighing as he looks over at R2-D2. He is in some vast, ancient library, and he is dressed as some Jedi-like individual in robes. You cannot see his face because of the hood pulled low over it. “It’s finished,” he says softly to R2, who looks much older, banged up and faded. “Thank you, my friend, for helping me to complete this at last. I couldn’t have done it without all of the details you provided.”
R2 then beeps in response, his vocal beeps sounding warbled.
The man smiles and laughs a bit. “No. No. I won’t write any more. My journal is complete. Let other Whills continue the tales. I have had my fill.” He then gets to his feet, leaving his table. He takes the book and places it upon a shelf with many other books all with bindings that read: “Journal of the Whills”. Each has a different volume number. Volume 422 has yet to be written, it seems.
The man then makes his way out of the building and into the Tatooine desert. The suns are setting, and the music plays even as it did that one sunset when Luke stood and watched back in Episode 4. The old sage approaches his children who are also standing there, staring at the suns setting as well. R2 wheels up from behind. The Whill puts his arms around his children, and then, at last, the camera spins around just about revealing who the man is beneath the veiled hood. The old sage, the Whill who wrote the saga, appears to be…then the credits conclude without truly making it clear.
And the Nemesis of the Force comes to an end, thus concluding the Shadows of the Past Trilogy and the Skywalker Saga.
